Seattle Blues is a minor Blues in slow 6 rather the the typical 4/4 which contributes to this pieces unique and infectious groove.
This piece came into being one night while playing at a local bar when I decided to improvise something from scratch. The result got such a good reaction from the crowd that I went home and figured out what I"d played so I wouldn't forget it.

I wrote Ballad for Florence while attending Centrum Jazz Workshop at For Worden State Park. Centrum is a week long jazz intensive where each participant is put in a small combo led by a recognized jazz artist. This particular year I was in a combo led by Bob Florence, a Grammy winning big band composer and arranger who wrote for Count Bassie. For our combo's performance Mr Florence asked each member of the combo to compose a ballad.  I was just entering 9th grade and had never done anything of the sort.  So I spent a great deal of time locked away in practice rooms.  With help and input from Mr Florence I came up with this piece.

Port Townsend meditation is a contemplative piece inspired by my time spent at the beautiful Fort Warden state park just outside the city of Port Townsend WA.
This song is written in memory of a good friend.
Unquestioned answers is inspired by Scott lafaro's beautiful composition Glorias Step.
I wrote this almost entirely one evening after watching Manon of the Spring, a wonderful movie directed by Claude Berri.

I Remember Clifford
Also known as Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, composed by Benny Golson, written in memory of Clifford Brown, a wonderful trumpet player who died young in a tragic accident.
